Kiii News reported that the one-billion dollar Chinese steel plant going in at Gregory is taking shape as steel framing is now up at the 252-acre site located at State Highways 361 and 35.

Ground was broken at the plant in late August, and it seems the Tianjin Steel Company is moving full steam ahead on its seamless pipe plant.

Officials in Gregory said the company has told them it should be open sometime in 2014. In the meantime, Gregory officials said they are busy working on making their city more attractive to those businesses that are sure to follow Tianjin Steel.

Mr Tino Zambrano Gregory mayor pro-tem said "We're being very optimistic right now. We need to get the infrastructures first, so that we can become attractive to businesses coming in. The mayor is very much into this program. Very much into cleaning up the city."

The plant is producing around 2,000 construction jobs, then another 600 permanent jobs, once the facility is fully operational.
